About this task
Turn a CSV export into JSON to load it into a script, a test fixture, an API request or a document database. This page opens the table converter set to JSON: every row becomes an object whose keys come from the header row, in an indented array.
A column becomes JSON numbers only when every value in it is a plain number, so prices and counts are numbers while postal codes, phone numbers and IDs with leading zeros stay strings. Empty header cells get names like column_3, and a repeated name gets _2. Files up to 10 MB, 30 columns and 100,000 rows are converted in your browser.
How to do it
- Choose or drop one CSV file and check the columns in the preview.
- Keep “Convert to” on JSON and “First row is header” on.
- If the preview looks wrong, change the “Encoding (CSV)” or the “Delimiter (CSV)”, for example to Semicolon for European exports.
- Select Run and download the .json file.
Common questions
What does the JSON look like?
An array with one object per row, such as [{"sku": "007", "price": 12.5}], indented with two spaces. Keys keep the order of the CSV columns.
How do I keep every value as a string?
Turn off “Store number columns as numbers”. Every value then stays text, which is safer for phone numbers, postal codes and anything you will not calculate with.
My CSV has no header row. What happens?
Turn off “First row is header” and the keys become column_1, column_2 and so on, so the first row is kept as data.
