About this task
Import forms for shops, CRMs, mailing lists and banks usually want CSV, not an Excel workbook. This page opens the table converter set to CSV: one worksheet of an XLSX file becomes a comma-separated file with the values Excel saved, never the formulas.
Codes such as 007 and long ID numbers stay exactly as written. The file starts with a UTF-8 byte order mark, so Excel shows accented and Chinese text correctly when it opens the CSV again, and cells starting with =, +, - or @ get an apostrophe so that no spreadsheet runs them as formulas. Files up to 10 MB and 50,000 rows are converted on your device.
How to do it
- Choose or drop one Excel (XLSX) file. Its first rows appear in the preview.
- Keep “Convert to” on CSV. For a workbook with several sheets, enter the sheet’s name under “Worksheet”.
- Pick another “Delimiter” if the importing system asks for semicolons or tabs.
- Select Run and download the CSV, which keeps the workbook’s name.
Common questions
Can I convert all sheets of a workbook at once?
No, one worksheet per run. Enter each sheet’s name under “Worksheet” and run the tool again for the next one; the field can stay empty when the workbook has a single sheet.
Should I turn off the UTF-8 BOM?
Only if the system you import into rejects it, as some older scripts read the BOM as part of the first column’s name. Excel needs the BOM to read UTF-8 text correctly.
What happens to merged cells, colours and charts?
They are dropped, because CSV holds plain values only: colours, merged cells, charts and comments are not carried over.
