Trim video
Cut a clip out of an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV video by start and end time. By default the video and sound are copied without re-encoding, so it is fast and the quality is unchanged; exact cutting re-encodes the video to start on the exact frame.

About this tool
Trim a video in your browser by typing where the part you want starts and ends. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos keep their format, and nothing is uploaded.
The fast cut copies the video and sound as they are, so it takes seconds and the quality is unchanged. Because a copied clip has to begin on a keyframe, it starts at the keyframe at or just before your start time: phone videos usually have one every second or two, screen recordings sometimes only every few seconds. For a cut on the exact frame, choose “Exact frame”, which re-encodes the picture and still copies the sound.
How to use it
- Choose or drop up to 5 videos, 80 MB in total.
- Enter the “Start” and “End” in seconds or m:ss, for example 1:05 and 1:40. Leave “End” empty to keep everything after the start.
- Keep “Cutting” on “Fast, without re-encoding” for a lossless copy, or choose “Exact frame” when the clip must begin on a precise frame.
- Select Run, play the clip in the preview and download it.

Common questions
Does trimming a video reduce its quality?
Not with the fast cut: the original video and sound packets are copied into the new file without being decoded. The exact cut re-encodes the picture at high quality, which can soften fine detail very slightly; the sound is still copied.
Why does my clip start a little before the time I entered?
Most frames in a video only store what changed since the last keyframe, so a copied clip has to start on one. The fast cut starts at the keyframe at or before your start time. Choose “Exact frame” to start precisely where you asked.
Can I trim a video without re-encoding?
Yes, that is what the fast cut does, for MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. It works in any browser, even one that cannot play the video’s codec, because nothing is decoded.
How do I keep only the first or last part?
For the first part, leave “Start” at 0 and set “End”. For the last part, set “Start” and leave “End” empty.
Workflows that use this tool
Short clip to GIF
Cut a few seconds out of a video at the exact frame, then turn that clip into an animated GIF with the width, frame rate and loop count you choose.
Horizontal to vertical video (9:16)
Keep up to a minute of a landscape video and turn it into a 9:16 vertical video at 1080 × 1920 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, cropping the sides or adding black bars.
Related tools
Extract audio from video (MP4 to MP3)
Take the sound out of MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM video and convert it to MP3, M4A, OGG, WebM or WAV, or keep the track unchanged in its own container, optionally trimmed. Files are not uploaded.
Convert video format
Convert between MP4, WebM, MKV and MOV; MP4 and MOV get H.264 video and AAC sound so any player opens them, and other formats copy streams when they can. Scale down, remove the sound or trim at the same time. Encoding uses the browser.
Resize video
Change the resolution of MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos, for example to 1080p or 720p, and optionally make them square (1:1), vertical (9:16), widescreen (16:9) or 4:5 by cropping or adding black bars. The sound is copied unchanged.
Trim audio
Cut a time range out of MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC or WebM audio without re-encoding, so quality is unchanged.
Compress video
Make MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos smaller by quality level, target file size or bitrate, with an optional resolution limit. Encodes H.264 (MP4), VP9 (WebM) or AV1 (MP4) with the browser’s own encoder.
Remove audio from video
Mute MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos by removing the audio track. The picture is copied without re-encoding, so its quality, resolution and rotation stay exactly the same.
