About this task

PNG keeps text, diagrams and line art crisp, without the blur JPG adds around edges, which makes it the better choice for slides, documentation, charts and pages you will annotate. This page opens the PDF to image converter set to PNG at 150 DPI: an A4 page becomes an image of about 1240 × 1754 pixels.

Pages are drawn by PDF.js in your browser. Up to 100 pages are converted per run, from a PDF of up to 500 pages and 80 MB; for longer documents, enter page ranges and run again. Each image is named after the PDF and its page number, so the files sort in page order.

How to do it

  1. Choose or drop one PDF file.
  2. Keep “Image format” on PNG and set “Resolution (DPI)”: 150 for screens, 300 for print.
  3. Optionally enter page ranges such as 2-4,7, or leave them blank for every page.
  4. Select Run, preview the pages and download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Common questions

Why are the PNG files so large?

PNG stores every pixel without loss, so a page full of photos can take several megabytes at 300 DPI. For scanned or photo-heavy pages, choose JPG instead, which is much smaller.

Can the PNG have a transparent background?

No. Pages are drawn on white, like a printed sheet, so the images are fully opaque.

Which DPI gives an image 1080 pixels wide?

For an A4 page in portrait, about 130 DPI: the page width in inches, 8.27, times the DPI gives the width in pixels, so 8.27 × 130 makes about 1075 pixels.
