About this tool
A month calendar with Chinese lunar dates for 1901 to 2099. Use it to find the lunar date of a birthday, see which day a solar term such as 清明 falls on, look up the date of the Spring Festival or the Mid-Autumn Festival in a given year, or count the days until a date.
Weeks start on Monday. Each day shows a festival, a solar term or its lunar date, and selecting a day shows its full date, lunar date and zodiac year, year, month and day stems and branches, star sign and distance from today. Public holiday and make-up workday arrangements are not shown. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How to use it
- Use ‹ and › to move by a month and « and » to move by a year, or type a year and pick a month. “Today” jumps back to the current date.
- Read the label under each date: festivals and solar terms are highlighted, the first day of a lunar month shows the month name, and other days show the lunar day.
- Select a day to see “Date”, “Chinese calendar”, “Stems and branches”, “Star sign” and “From today” below the calendar, plus “Solar term” and “Festivals” when that day has any.
Common questions
Does it show public holidays and make-up workdays?
No. Holiday and make-up workday arrangements are announced each year by the State Council and are not shown. A festival on the calendar marks its date only, not a day off.
Which festivals are included?
Traditional lunar festivals such as the Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Qixi, Mid-Autumn Festival, Double Ninth, Laba and New Year’s Eve, and Gregorian ones such as New Year’s Day, Labour Day, National Day, Mother’s Day and Christmas. A date shows one label, lunar festivals first; select the day to see them all under “Festivals”.
Why does a day show a month name instead of a lunar day?
That day is the first day of a lunar month, so it shows the month, such as 九月, or 闰六月 for a leap month. Other days show the lunar day, such as 十五.
Why does the stem-branch year change at Chinese New Year rather than at the Start of Spring?
Here the year’s stems and branches and its zodiac animal change on the first day of the lunar year, while the month’s stems and branches change on the day of solar terms such as Start of Spring (立春) and Awakening of Insects (惊蛰). So between the Start of Spring and Chinese New Year, the month already belongs to the new cycle while the year shown is still the old one.
Which years are covered, and how are lunar dates worked out?
The year box accepts 1901 to 2099. Lunar dates, solar terms and stems and branches come from the open-source lunar-javascript library (1.7.7), calculated in your browser.
