About this tool

Convert Gregorian dates to the Chinese lunar calendar, or lunar dates back to Gregorian. Use it to find the lunar date of a birthday, work out which day a lunar birthday or festival falls on this year, or check the zodiac year of a date. Put one date per line to convert a whole list in one run.

Each Gregorian date is shown with its weekday, stem-branch year, zodiac animal and lunar month and day, plus any solar term or festival on that day. Lunar dates can mark a leap month with 闰 or L. Results are written in Chinese, and the conversion runs in your browser without uploading anything.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste dates, one per line, such as 2026-10-13, 2026/10/13, 20261013 or 2026年10月13日, or select “Use example”.
  2. Choose the “Direction”: “Gregorian → lunar” or “Lunar → Gregorian”.
  3. For lunar dates, write the month as a number and put 闰 or L before a leap month, as in 2025-L6-01.
  4. Select “Run”, then check the results line by line and download them as a text file.

Common questions

Why does a date in early February show the previous zodiac year?

The stem-branch year and the zodiac change on lunar New Year’s Day, not on 1 January or at the start of spring (立春). For example, 2026-02-10 is still 乙巳年, the year of the snake, while the year of the horse, 丙午年, begins on 2026-02-17.

How do I enter a leap month?

Put 闰 or L before the month, so 2025-L6-01 or 2025年闰6月1日 is the first day of leap month 6 in 2025, which is 2025-07-25. If that year has no such leap month, the run stops with an error that quotes the line.

What happens with a date that does not exist?

A date such as 2026-02-30, or day 30 of a lunar month that has only 29 days, stops the run, and the error quotes the line. Fix or remove it and run again.

Are solar terms and festivals shown?

Yes, for Gregorian → lunar. When the day is a solar term such as 小寒 or a festival such as 中秋节 or 国庆节, its name follows the lunar date. Lunar → Gregorian results do not list them.

Can I write a lunar date in Chinese, like 九月初四?

No. Lunar dates are read as numbers only, so write 2026-09-04 for the fourth day of the ninth month. The results do use the Chinese month and day names.
