About this tool

Test a mouse’s buttons, wheel and double-click online. Use it when a single click registers as a double click, a side button does nothing or the wheel jumps, or to check a second-hand or gaming mouse button by button.

It counts presses of the left, middle, right, back and forward buttons, wheel steps up, down, left and right, and double-clicks, and flags two presses of one button less than 80 ms apart as “Possible switch bounce”. Inside the test area the context menu, middle-button auto-scroll and back navigation are blocked. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Move the pointer into the test area and press the left, middle and right buttons and both side buttons. Each button lights up and counts its presses.
  2. Scroll the wheel up and down, and tilt it left and right if it can. The table counts each direction and shows the last deltaX and deltaY values.
  3. Double-click in the test area and check that “Double-clicks” matches what you did.
  4. If “Possible switch bounce” appears, a button fired twice within 80 ms. Select “Reset” to set everything back to zero.

Common questions

What does “Possible switch bounce” mean?

Two presses of the same button less than 80 ms apart are almost never made by hand. It usually means a worn switch is turning one click into two, the common cause of unwanted double clicks. If it shows up only once, test a few more times to be sure.

Why does a side button not register?

The page detects the back and forward buttons as the browser receives them. If the mouse’s own software gives a side button another function, the browser no longer sees it as a side button.

How is a double-click counted?

The page uses the browser’s double-click event, so two clicks count only when they are within your system’s double-click speed.

Can it measure DPI or polling rate?

No. The page tests buttons, the wheel and double-clicks, and shows the pointer’s position inside the test area.

What does deltaMode mean in the wheel row?

It is the unit of the scroll amount: 0 means pixels, 1 lines and 2 pages. The values depend on the browser and system settings, so the direction counts matter most.
