About this tool
Reverse text in five ways: all characters, the characters of each line, the order of lines, the order of words in each line, or the items of a delimited list or a JSON array. Use it to flip a log so the newest line comes first, reverse a list of names, write text backwards for a puzzle, or check a palindrome.
Characters are reversed as you see them, so emoji such as 👋🏽 and accented letters stay whole. In word mode the spaces stay where they are and only the words move; a list keeps its delimiter, and a JSON array comes back as JSON. Up to 1 MB of text is processed in your browser and is not uploaded.
How to use it
- Paste your text, or select Use example.
- Under “Reverse”, choose “All characters”, “Characters of each line”, “Line order”, “Word order in each line” or “List or JSON array items”.
- For a list, set the “List delimiter”: a comma by default, and \t stands for a tab.
- Select Run, then preview reversed.txt and download it.

Common questions
Why does “Word order in each line” leave my Chinese text unchanged?
Words are separated by spaces, so a Chinese sentence without spaces counts as one word. Choose “Characters of each line” to reverse it character by character instead. Punctuation moves together with the word it is attached to.
Why are the spaces in the wrong place after reversing a list?
The text is split exactly at the delimiter, so in a, b, c the last two items start with a space and the result is “ c, b,a”. Set the delimiter to a comma followed by a space to get c, b, a.
How are JSON arrays handled?
If the text starts with [ and is a valid JSON array, its top-level items are reversed and written as compact JSON on one line, while nested arrays keep their order; JSON format and validate can lay it out again. Integers above 9007199254740991 lose precision in this mode.
What is the difference between “All characters” and “Characters of each line”?
“All characters” turns the whole text around, so the last line comes first and every line is also spelled backwards. “Characters of each line” reverses each line but keeps the lines in their order.
Do emoji and accented letters survive?
Yes. Characters are reversed as people see them, so an emoji with a skin tone, a flag or a letter with a combining accent stays in one piece.
