About this tool

Change letter case, or turn phrases and identifiers into programming naming styles. Rename a list of database columns to snake_case, turn field names into camelCase for JavaScript, write constant names in CONSTANT_CASE, or swap the case of text typed with Caps Lock on.

Each line is converted on its own, so you can paste a whole list. Naming styles split words at spaces, underscores, hyphens, dots and changes of case, and keep abbreviations such as HTTP together. There are 11 styles, and up to 1 MB of text is converted in your browser without uploading.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text with one phrase or identifier per line, or select Use example.
  2. Choose a “Style”, such as “camelCase” (the default), “snake_case” or “Title Case”.
  3. Select Run.
  4. Preview converted.txt, then download it.

Common questions

How are the words in an identifier found?

Spaces, underscores, hyphens and dots separate words, and so does a capital letter after a lowercase one. A run of capitals stays one word, so parseHTTPResponse becomes parse_http_response in snake_case and parseHttpResponse in camelCase.

Why does item2 become item_2?

In naming styles a group of digits counts as its own word, so item2 becomes item_2 in snake_case and item-2 in kebab-case, while camelCase keeps item2.

Does “Title Case” keep small words like of and the lowercase?

No. Every word gets a capital first letter and the rest of the word becomes lowercase, so the lord of the rings becomes The Lord Of The Rings and NASA becomes Nasa. Fix such words by hand afterwards.

What does “Sentence case” do?

It lowercases the whole line, then capitalises the first letter of the line and the first letter after a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark followed by a space. Names and abbreviations become lowercase too.

What happens to Chinese characters?

They have no case, so they stay as they are. In naming styles a run of Chinese characters counts as one word, so 用户 name becomes 用户_name in snake_case.
