About this tool
Convert Chinese text between Simplified and Traditional characters, for example when you adapt an article or product copy for readers in Taiwan or Hong Kong, or want to read a Traditional Chinese document in Simplified characters. Conversion uses the OpenCC dictionaries and picks characters by word, so 头发 becomes 頭髮 while 发展 becomes 發展.
Eight directions are available, including Taiwan and Hong Kong character forms and an option that also swaps common terms for Taiwan usage. Up to 1 MB of text is converted at a time; Latin letters, digits and punctuation stay as they are. Everything runs in your browser, and your text is not uploaded.

Common questions
What is the difference between Traditional, Taiwan and Hong Kong?
“Simplified → Traditional” uses OpenCC’s standard Traditional forms, while the Taiwan and Hong Kong options use the forms common in each region: 里面 becomes 裏面 in standard Traditional but 裡面 for Taiwan, and 台湾 becomes 臺灣 but 台灣 for Hong Kong. “Simplified → Taiwan” and “Simplified → Hong Kong” change character forms only, not the wording.
Can it change words, like 软件 to 軟體?
Yes. Choose “Simplified → Taiwan, with phrases” to also replace common mainland terms with Taiwan ones, such as 鼠标 → 滑鼠 and 信息 → 資訊. “Taiwan, with phrases → Simplified” does the reverse; the other options keep the original wording.
How are Simplified characters with several Traditional forms handled?
Characters such as 发, 后 and 干 are resolved from the surrounding word with OpenCC’s phrase dictionary: 以后 becomes 以後 while 皇后 stays 皇后, and 干燥 becomes 乾燥 while 干部 becomes 幹部. Words, names and terms missing from the dictionary may still come out wrong, so proofread important text.
Are quotation marks changed to 「」?
No. Quotation marks such as “” and other punctuation, Latin letters and digits are kept as they are. Replace the quotation marks yourself after converting if you need 「」.
