About this tool
Add page numbers to a PDF in a few clicks: choose where they go, such as the bottom centre or the top right, and a format like 1, 1 / 12, Page 1 or Page 1 of 12.
Skip a cover or a table of contents with a page range, start counting at any number, and set the font size, colour, opacity and distance from the edge. Numbers stay upright on rotated pages and inside the visible area of cropped pages. The PDF is numbered in your browser and never uploaded.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF file, or drop it on the page.
- Pick a “Position” and a “Format”, and set the “First number”.
- Optionally enter the “Pages to number”, such as 2-20 to leave the cover without a number, and adjust the font size, colour, opacity and distance from the edge.
- Select Run, then preview the numbered PDF and download it.

Common questions
How do I skip the cover page?
Enter the pages to number, such as 2-20. Only the chosen pages are counted, so with 2-20 and a first number of 1, page 2 shows 1; set the first number to 2 to keep the printed numbers in step with the page count.
What does the total in “Page 1 of 12” count?
The last number shown: the first number plus the number of numbered pages, minus one.
Which font is used?
Helvetica, one of the standard PDF fonts that every viewer has, so it is not embedded and adds almost nothing to the file size. The formats are digits, with “Page” and “of” in English.
Why is my PDF refused?
Password-protected PDFs, digitally signed PDFs (any change would break the signature), damaged files, files over 80 MB and documents over 500 pages are refused with a message saying why.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The numbers are added in your browser, and the PDF stays on your device until you close or clear the page.
