About this tool

Crop a video to one rectangle of its picture, set in percent or pixels: cut off black bars, remove a watermark or logo in a corner, or zoom in on the subject. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos keep their format and file name, the sound is kept as it is, and nothing is uploaded.

The region is measured in the picture as you see it when it plays, after the video’s own rotation. The picture is re-encoded, as H.264, or VP9 for WebM, where the browser can, and the width and height are rounded down to even pixels because video encoders need even sizes. To change only the shape, such as square 1:1 or vertical 9:16 with a centred crop, use “Resize video” instead.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop up to 10 MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV videos, 80 MB in total.
  2. Pick a “Unit”: “Percent of the picture” or “Pixels”.
  3. Set the “Left offset” and “Top offset” of the region’s top-left corner, then its “Crop width” and “Crop height”. The default, 10, 10, 80 and 80 percent, trims a tenth off every side.
  4. Select Run, play the result in the preview and download it, or download all of them as a ZIP.

Common questions

How do I remove black bars from a video?

Measure the bars, for example on a screenshot of a paused frame, and enter the picture between them. Bars of 140 pixels above and below a 1920 × 1080 video leave 1920 × 800: set “Unit” to “Pixels”, “Left offset” to 0, “Top offset” to 140, “Crop width” to 1920 and “Crop height” to 800.

How do I crop out a watermark in a corner?

Cropping cuts it off together with the strip of picture it sits in. For a logo in the bottom-right corner, keep “Left offset” and “Top offset” at 0 and make the width and height smaller in percent, for example 90 each, which cuts 10% off the right and the bottom.

Why do I get an error that the region extends past the picture?

In percent, “Left offset” plus “Crop width”, and “Top offset” plus “Crop height”, must each stay within 100. In pixels, the region must fit inside every video in the batch; a vertical phone video, for example, is often 1080 pixels wide and 1920 tall.

Does cropping lower the quality?

The picture is decoded and encoded again, so it is not a lossless copy. Nothing is enlarged: the result has the size of the region you chose. The sound is copied unchanged. Each run may take at most 2 minutes, so trim long videos first.

Is the rotation of phone videos taken into account?

Yes. Offsets and sizes are measured in the picture as it plays, after the video’s own rotation, so a vertical phone video is cropped the way you see it.

Extract audio from video (MP4 to MP3)

Take the sound out of MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM video and convert it to MP3, M4A, OGG, WebM or WAV, or keep the track unchanged in its own container, optionally trimmed. Files are not uploaded.

Convert video format

Convert between MP4, WebM, MKV and MOV; MP4 and MOV get H.264 video and AAC sound so any player opens them, and other formats copy streams when they can. Scale down, remove the sound or trim at the same time. Encoding uses the browser.

Resize video

Change the resolution of MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos, for example to 1080p or 720p, and optionally make them square (1:1), vertical (9:16), widescreen (16:9) or 4:5 by cropping or adding black bars. The sound is copied unchanged.

Trim video

Cut a clip out of an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV video by start and end time. By default the video and sound are copied without re-encoding, so it is fast and the quality is unchanged; exact cutting re-encodes the video to start on the exact frame.

Compress video

Make MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos smaller by quality level, target file size or bitrate, with an optional resolution limit. Encodes H.264 (MP4), VP9 (WebM) or AV1 (MP4) with the browser’s own encoder.

Remove background noise from video

Clean the sound of MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos: hum, hiss, wind, fans and room noise are removed from speech by RNNoise in your browser. The picture is copied as it is; only the sound is encoded again.
