About this task
iPhones and many cameras record video as MOV, the QuickTime format. To keep only the sound of a recorded talk, a rehearsal or a voice message, this page opens the audio extractor with MP3 at 192 kbps, a format any phone, car stereo or editor plays.
The size limit matters more for MOV than for most formats: iPhone video at 1080p takes roughly 60 to 130 MB per minute, and a run accepts 80 MB of video in total, so trim long clips on the phone first or export them at a lower resolution. The MOV is read and the MP3 written in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.
How to do it
- Choose or drop up to 5 MOV videos, 80 MB in total.
- Keep “Output format” on MP3. For a voice recording, 128 kbps and Mono make a smaller file.
- Enter a start and end time to keep only part of the sound.
- Select Run, listen to the result and download the MP3.
Common questions
My iPhone video is larger than 80 MB. What can I do?
Trim it in the Photos app first, or export it at a lower resolution, then convert it. Entering a start and end time here does not help, because the whole file must still fit within 80 MB.
Does it matter whether the iPhone recorded HEVC or H.264?
No. Only the sound track is used, which is AAC in both cases, so the video codec makes no difference to the MP3.
Can I get a WAV for editing instead?
Yes. Choose “WAV (uncompressed)” under “Output format”. WAV keeps the decoded sound without further loss but takes about 10 MB per minute in stereo.
