About this task
TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts fill the phone screen with 9:16 video, and a landscape clip posted as it is shows up as a thin strip with large empty bands. This page opens the video resizer set to 9:16 at 1080 × 1920, the size those apps recommend.
By default the sides are cropped so the centre of the picture fills the screen, which suits a person or object in the middle. Choose black bars instead when the whole frame has to stay visible, such as for a slide or a screen recording. The sound is kept, and the video is converted in your browser without being uploaded.
How to do it
- Choose or drop up to 5 videos, 80 MB in total.
- Keep “Shape” on “Vertical 9:16” and “Resolution” on 1080p, or pick 720p for a smaller, faster result.
- Choose “Crop to fill” to cut off the sides, or “Fit inside” for black bars above and below.
- Select Run, check the preview and download the vertical video.
Common questions
What size is a 9:16 video?
1080 × 1920 pixels is the usual size for vertical video; 720 × 1280 is the same shape with fewer pixels and also accepted by TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
Will cropping cut off people at the edges of the frame?
Yes, a 16:9 landscape video loses about two thirds of its width when cropped to 9:16, keeping the middle third. If the important part is not in the centre, choose “Fit inside” to keep the whole picture.
Can I make the video shorter at the same time?
The workflow “Horizontal to vertical video (9:16)” first keeps up to a minute and then makes it vertical, in one run. Or trim the video with “Trim video” before resizing it.
