About this tool

Convert between units of data size, length, area, volume, weight, time, temperature, pressure, energy, power and speed. Check how many GiB a 1 TB drive holds, turn a recipe’s ounces into grams, convert °F to °C, or find out how many square metres a plot measured in 亩 covers.

Type one value and see it in every unit of that kind at once, each with its own copy button. Chinese units are included: 1 斤 = 500 g, 1 尺 = 1/3 m and 1 亩 ≈ 666.67 m². Results keep 12 significant digits, and everything runs in your browser without uploading.

How to use it

  1. Choose a quantity, such as Length, Weight or Temperature.
  2. Type the “Value”; thousands separators such as 1,000 are fine.
  3. Choose the unit you are converting “From”.
  4. Read the result in every unit in the table, and select “Copy” next to the one you need.

Common questions

Why is 1 TB only about 931 GiB?

KB, MB, GB and TB count in powers of 1000, while KiB, MiB, GiB and TiB count in powers of 1024. A 1 TB drive holds 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, which is 931.322574615 GiB; pick the 1024-based units when a figure was counted that way.

How big are the Chinese units 斤, 两 and 亩?

The page uses 1 斤 = 500 g, 1 两 = 50 g and 1 钱 = 5 g. 1 亩 is 10000/15 m², about 666.67 m², so 1 hectare is exactly 15 亩. For length, 1 里 = 500 m, 1 丈 = 10/3 m, 1 尺 = 1/3 m and 1 寸 = 1/30 m.

How is temperature converted?

By formula rather than a fixed ratio, by way of kelvin: 100 °F is 37.7777777778 °C and 0 K is -273.15 °C. Rankine (°R) and Réaumur (°Ré) are also available.

Which gallon, horsepower and year are used?

Both US and imperial gallons are listed, while quarts, pints and fluid ounces are US measures. Horsepower comes as metric (735.49875 W) and mechanical (about 745.7 W), and a year is 365 days; there is no month unit.

Why do some results look like 1e-12?

Results keep 12 significant digits, and very large or very small values are shown in exponent notation. For example, 1 nanometre is 1e-12 kilometres.
