About this tool

Write amounts in Chinese accounting capitals (人民币大写), as required on invoices, contracts, cheques and receipts; for example, 1005 becomes 壹仟零伍元整. It also works the other way, reading capitals back into numbers so you can check an amount someone else wrote.

Put one amount per line to convert many at once. Zeros, 角, 分 and 整 are written the way accounting expects, and amounts with more than two decimals are rounded to the fen. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Under “Add text”, enter one amount per line, or select “Use example”. Amounts may include ¥ and thousands separators.
  2. Under “Adjust settings”, choose the “Direction”: “Number to capitals” or “Capitals to number”.
  3. When writing capitals, tick “Start with 人民币” if the form needs it.
  4. Select “Run”, then check each line under “Preview and download” and download the result as a text file.

Common questions

What is the largest amount supported?

The whole-yuan part can have up to 16 digits, with 万亿 as the largest unit. A longer amount stops the run with an invalid amount error.

How are 角, 分 and 整 written?

An amount that ends at yuan or jiao gets 整, so 1005 is 壹仟零伍元整 and 10.5 is 壹拾元伍角整; an amount with fen does not. When an amount has yuan and fen but no jiao, 零 goes in between, as in 壹拾万元零伍分 for 100000.05, and amounts under one yuan leave out 元, as in 伍角整 for 0.5.

What happens with more than two decimals or a negative amount?

The amount is rounded half up to the fen, so ¥1,234.565 becomes 壹仟贰佰叁拾肆元伍角柒分. A negative amount starts with 负, as in 负捌元整 for -8.

Can it turn capitals back into a number?

Yes. Choose “Capitals to number” and 壹仟零伍元整 becomes 1005.00. Everyday numerals such as 一千二百三十四元五角 work too, and 人民币 and a final 整 or 正 are ignored.
