About this tool

Record your voice or any sound from a microphone in your browser, without installing anything: a voice memo, a spoken message, a podcast take or an instrument. A live waveform and a level meter in dBFS show the input while you record, and you can pause and resume.

When you stop, listen back on the page and save the take as MP3, as uncompressed WAV, or in the format the browser recorded: WebM with Opus in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, M4A in Safari. The recording stays in your browser until you save it, and nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose the “Microphone”, or keep the default device. Keep “Voice processing: noise suppression, echo cancelling, automatic level” ticked for speech, or untick it for music.
  2. Select “Start recording” and allow the microphone when the browser asks.
  3. Watch the level meter while you record. Select “Pause” and “Resume” as needed, and the “Stop” button, which shows the time recorded so far, when you are done.
  4. Listen to the take, pick a format under “Save as” and select “Save”.

Common questions

How do I record audio as MP3?

After you stop, choose MP3 under “Save as” and select “Save”. The recording is encoded at 192 kbps in your browser with the LAME encoder. WAV keeps it uncompressed, and the original saves the file exactly as the browser recorded it.

Should I turn off voice processing?

For speech, keep it on: it lowers background noise and echo and evens out the level. For music or instruments, untick it before you start, so the sound is recorded as the microphone hears it, without noise suppression or level changes.

How do I read the level meter?

It shows how loud the input is in dBFS, where 0 is the loudest a recording can hold. If the meter often reaches 0, the sound is cut off and distorts; move back from the microphone or turn its input level down.

Is there a time limit?

The page sets no limit, but the recording is held in the browser’s memory until you save it, so very long recordings use a lot of memory. “Record again” replaces the current take, so save it first.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The browser asks for permission to use the microphone, and the recording stays in this page until you save it as a file. If you refused the permission, allow it in the address bar and try again.

Convert audio to MP3, M4A, OGG or WAV

Convert MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC and WebM audio to MP3, M4A, OGG, WebM or WAV, with bitrate, sample rate and channels. MP3 is encoded with LAME and the other formats by the browser; files are not uploaded.

Change audio speed and pitch

Speed up or slow down MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and other audio from 0.25× to 4× without changing the pitch, or let the pitch follow, and shift the pitch by up to 12 semitones up or down. Save as MP3, M4A, OGG, WebM or WAV.
