About this task

200 KB is a common upload limit for job sites, marketplace listings, forums and blog images, and it leaves room for a sharp photo. This page opens the image compressor with a 200 KB target and “Minimum quality” raised to 0.7, so faces and product details stay crisp, and with “Preserve dimensions” on, so nothing is cropped or scaled.

A JPG of about 2 megapixels, such as 1600 × 1200 pixels, typically fits in 200 KB at that quality. A 12-megapixel phone photo usually does not, so resize it to around 1600 pixels wide first, or lower the minimum quality. Up to 20 images of up to 8 MB each are compressed in one run, without leaving your browser.

How to do it

  1. Choose or drop up to 20 JPG, PNG or WebP images.
  2. Keep “Target size (KB)” at 200 and “Minimum quality” at 0.7, or lower the quality if hitting the size matters more than detail.
  3. Select Run and compare each result with its original.
  4. Download the images one by one or all together as a ZIP.

Common questions

Why use a minimum quality of 0.7 here?

With 200 KB to spend, most web-sized photos fit well above 0.7, and going lower mainly adds blocky artifacts in skies and skin. If an image cannot fit at 0.7 with its dimensions kept, the report marks it TARGET_UNREACHED and you can decide whether to lower the quality or the size.

Will a photo that is already under 200 KB get worse?

The tool starts at the minimum quality and works upward, keeping the highest quality that still fits, so a small photo is saved again at a quality close to 1. It is re-encoded either way, which also removes its EXIF details.

Can I compress HEIC photos from an iPhone to 200 KB?

Not directly: the compressor reads JPG, PNG and WebP. Convert the HEIC photos to JPG first, then compress the JPG files here.
