About this task

1920 × 1080 pixels, Full HD in a 16:9 frame, is the size of most monitors and TVs, of widescreen presentation slides and of 1080p video. This page opens the image resizer with that size and “Fill the size, crop the excess”, so a photo becomes an edge-to-edge desktop wallpaper or slide background without black bars.

Phone photos are 4:3 or taller, so filling a 16:9 frame trims their top and bottom, and a vertical photo loses most of its height. Choose “Fit inside, pad to the exact size” to keep the whole picture, with bars in the padding colour. Up to 20 images of up to 8 MB each are resized in your browser.

How to do it

  1. Choose or drop up to 20 images, preferably at least 1920 pixels wide.
  2. Keep “Width” at 1920, “Height” at 1080 and “Fit” on “Fill the size, crop the excess”.
  3. Select Run and check how each picture was cropped.
  4. Download the results, or all of them as a ZIP.

Common questions

My photo is smaller than 1920 × 1080. Will it work?

Yes, because “Allow upscaling” is on: the picture is enlarged to fill the frame. Enlarging cannot add detail, so a small photo looks soft on a big screen. Turn the option off to be warned instead; the tool then refuses images that would need enlarging.

Can I make a 4K version?

Yes. Enter 3840 and 2160 as the width and height. The tool accepts up to 12,000 pixels on a side, as long as the result stays under 24 megapixels.

Will a screenshot stay sharp?

A screenshot that is already 1920 × 1080 keeps its size and is only saved again. Scaling a larger one down keeps text readable, and PNG screenshots stay lossless.
