About this task
Many websites serve pictures as WebP, so “Save image as” often gives you a .webp file that older editors, Office documents and some upload forms will not take. This page opens the image converter set to PNG, which every editor and viewer can open and which keeps transparent backgrounds.
A lossless WebP becomes a PNG with exactly the same pixels, and a lossy one keeps the detail it already has. Animated WebP files are rejected, as only still images are converted. Up to 20 files of up to 25 MB each are converted in your browser.
How to do it
- Choose or drop up to 20 WebP images saved from the web.
- Keep “Format” on PNG.
- Select Run and check the previews.
- Download the PNG files, or all of them as a ZIP.
Common questions
Does the PNG keep the transparent background?
Yes. PNG stores full transparency, so stickers, logos and cut-out product photos look the same as in the WebP. Choose JPG instead only if you want a solid background.
Why won’t my WebP convert?
It is most likely animated. Animated WebP files are refused with an error, because this tool converts still images only.
PNG or JPG for a WebP from the web?
PNG for graphics, screenshots and anything with transparency; JPG for photos, where it gives a much smaller file. For a WebP photo, the WebP to JPG page has suitable settings.
