Passport photo maker (US, UK, Schengen, visa sizes)

Turn a portrait into a passport or visa photo in your browser: the background becomes white, off-white, light grey or blue, the head is centred and sized to the rules (US 2 × 2 in, UK, Schengen and India 35 × 45 mm, Canada 50 × 70 mm, China visa 33 × 48 mm or a custom size), and you get the photo at its exact pixel size and DPI, a 4 × 6 in print sheet and a pass/fail report. The AI model (about 45 MB) downloads once.

About this tool

Make a passport or visa photo from a portrait taken at home against any background. The background is replaced with the colour the rules ask for, the head is found, straightened and sized to the official head-height range, and the photo is saved at its exact size: US passports and visas (2 × 2 in, 600 × 600 px), UK passports, Schengen visas and Indian passports (35 × 45 mm), Canadian passports (50 × 70 mm), Chinese visas (33 × 48 mm), or a size you enter in millimetres, inches or pixels.

Each run gives three files: the photo as a JPG with its print resolution (DPI) stored in it, a 4 × 6 in sheet with as many copies as fit, ready for a photo kiosk or home printer, and a report that marks the size, resolution, file size and head-height checks PASS or FAIL. Everything runs in your browser with open AI models (about 45 MB, downloaded once), so the portrait is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Take a photo facing the camera in even light, with the whole head, the shoulders and some space above the hair in the picture, and choose it here.
  2. Choose the photo type, or Custom size with its width, height, unit and DPI. The background follows the rules unless you pick another colour.
  3. If an online form limits the file size, enter the smallest and largest size in KB; the US and Chinese visa limits are applied by themselves.
  4. Select Run, then read the report. To change the framing, adjust “Head size” or move the photo sideways or up and down, and run again.
  5. Download the photo for an online application, or the 4 × 6 in sheet to print at 100% scale.

Common questions

Will my photo be accepted?

The report checks what can be measured: pixel size, DPI, file size, head height and, for the US, the eye line. Officials also judge expression, lighting, focus, glasses and how recent the photo is, which no tool can promise. Check the issuing authority’s rules before you apply; the US, for example, no longer accepts glasses in passport photos.

How do I print the photos?

Print the 4 × 6 in sheet (10 × 15 cm) at a photo kiosk, a pharmacy or online lab, or on a home printer at 100% scale with no borders and no fit-to-page. Each copy then comes out at its exact size; cut along the thin grey lines.

How is the head size decided?

A face detector finds the eyes, nose and mouth and the outline of the face, and the background model finds the top of the hair. The head, from chin to the top of the hair, is scaled to the middle of the allowed range and centred; for US photos the eye line is also placed in its range. Head size and the two move settings adjust this, and the report measures the result.

Why does the report say CHECK?

CHECK marks something to look at rather than a failed rule: hair touching the top edge of the original, which can make the head look shorter than it is, or a frame that reaches past the original photo, where the body would be cut off. Retaking the photo with more space around the head and shoulders fixes both.

What background colour should I use?

Leave it on “As the rules ask”: white for US, Indian, Canadian and Chinese photos and light grey for UK and Schengen photos. Off-white and blue are there for other forms that ask for them.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The models are downloaded from this site the first time, and the photo is processed in your browser and stays on your device.
